Executive Board

The Be Birmingham Executive Board has the following roles:

  • To have an oversight role and responsibility on behalf of Be Birmingham for leading and agreeing the Local Area Agreement (LAA) and Birmingham 2026 Community Strategy for approval by the Be Birmingham Summit and Birmingham City Council
  • To develop detailed proposals on the LAA including indicators, targets, budget allocations and delivery arrangements (which will remain the responsibility of the relevant partner agency)
  • To contribute, where appropriate, within the authority of the Be Birmingham Summit to other emerging or new strategies
  • To performance manage the delivery of the LAA and Birmingham 2026 and recommend necessary actions to ensure that the LAA and Birmingham 2026 outcomes and budgets are achieved
  • To manage the delivery of the Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF)
  • To work with the family of partnerships on the delivery of their LAA responsibilities and ensure cross-cutting working between partnerships
  • To promote the development of robust delivery arrangements for the LAA and help evaluate the effectiveness of interventions


The membership of the Be Birmingham Executive Board includes each Thematic Executive Board from the family of partnerships, and each key agency involved in taking forward the Local Area Agreement.

Be Birmingham Executive Board members includes Senior Officers for the following partnerships:

  • Cultural
  • Children and Young People
  • Environmental
  • Economic Development
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • City Housing
  • Safer
  • Neighbourhoods

In addition, the executive board also includes senior officers from the following:

  • Birmingham Chamber of Commerce
  • Birmingham Voluntary Services Council
  • Job Centre Plus
  • Primary Care Trust
  • Skills Funding Agency
  • West Midlands Fire Service
  • West Midlands Police

(The Local Authority Chief Executive, Deputy Leader, The Rt Rev David Urquhart and a community sector representative are board members and the Opposition Leader is an observer, along with brap being an advisor to the board.)
